How to Open a Forex Demo Account
A demo account lets you trade with virtual money in real market conditions. It’s the most important step before risking real capital.
Why Use a Demo Account?
- Zero financial risk — practice with virtual funds
- Real market conditions — live prices and execution
- Learn the platform — get comfortable with MetaTrader 4
- Test strategies — verify your approach works before going live
- Test EAs — run Expert Advisors without risking money

Demo Account Best Practices
DO:
- Use a realistic balance (similar to what you’d deposit)
- Follow proper risk management (2% rule)
- Keep a trading journal
- Trade for at least 2-3 months before going live
- Test Expert Advisors thoroughly
DON’T:
- Use unrealistic position sizes
- Treat it like a game — trade as if it were real money
- Skip risk management because “it’s just demo”
- Go live after just a few winning trades
When Are You Ready for Live Trading?
You may be ready to transition from demo to live when:
- You’ve been consistently profitable for 2+ months
- You understand and follow risk management rules
- You can execute your strategy without emotional decisions
- You’ve experienced drawdowns and recovered
- You’ve tested your EA on demo and understand its behavior
Testing EAs on Demo
Before running any Expert Advisor with real money:
- Open a demo account
- Install the EA (installation guide)
- Run it for at least 2-4 weeks
- Monitor performance, drawdowns, and behavior
- Only go live when you understand the EA’s patterns
Our free EAs — SteadyPips and GridMaster — can both be tested risk-free on a demo account.
