Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the Expert Advisors really free?

The EAs cost nothing to download or use. Running one does require a live XM account opened through our link — we earn a commission from XM on that account, which is what lets us give the EAs away. You pay the same spreads and fees as any other XM client.

Which broker do I need?

Our EAs are designed for XM (formerly XM Trading). You need to open a free XM account through our link to use the EAs. This is how we verify the IB relationship and keep the EAs free.

What is the minimum deposit?

XM allows accounts starting from $5, but $200+ is the minimum our EAs are designed to run on — below that, position sizing can’t work reliably. For more headroom against drawdowns, we recommend:

  • $500+ for SteadyPips EA (trend following)
  • $500+ for GridMaster EA (grid trading needs extra margin)

Can I use SteadyPips and GridMaster at the same time?

Yes! Many traders run these two EAs together on different charts. A common setup:

  • SteadyPips EA on EURUSD and GBPUSD (trending pairs)
  • GridMaster EA on EURGBP and AUDCAD (ranging pairs)

The same approach works with any of our seven EAs on separate charts.

Which EA should I choose?

  • SteadyPips EA — Designed for trending markets. Fewer trades, tighter per-trade risk caps, simpler logic to understand. A reasonable starting point for beginners — not a lower-loss guarantee.
  • GridMaster EA — Designed for ranging markets. More active trading, higher margin requirements, and materially higher drawdown risk when a strong trend arrives. Better suited to experienced traders.

Neither EA is expected to be profitable in all conditions. Both can lose money.

Do I need a VPS?

A VPS (Virtual Private Server) is highly recommended but not required. Without a VPS, the EA only trades when your computer is on and MT4 is running. With a VPS, it trades 24/5 uninterrupted. Read our VPS guide for details.

How do I install the EA?

  1. Download the EA file for your platform — .ex4 for MT4 or .ex5 for MT5
  2. Open MT4 (or MT5) and go to File → Open Data Folder
  3. Navigate to MQL4 → Experts (or MQL5 → Experts on MT5)
  4. Copy the EA file into this folder
  5. Restart the platform
  6. Drag the EA onto a chart

For detailed instructions, see our EA installation guide.

Does it work on MT5?

Yes. Every EA ships in both an MT4 (.ex4) and an MT5 (.ex5) build — the same account number verifies for either platform. For GridMaster on MT5, an XM Standard (hedging) account is recommended, because the grid logic needs multiple simultaneous positions per symbol.

What currency pairs are supported?

  • SteadyPips EA: EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, AUDUSD
  • GridMaster EA: EURUSD, USDCHF, EURGBP, AUDCAD
  • BreakWave EA: EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY
  • TripleAlign EA: EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY, AUDUSD
  • SnapBack EA: EURUSD, GBPUSD (best), USDJPY
  • QuickPulse EA: Tested on EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY — none currently pass our quality gate, so none are recommended
  • DualHorizon EA: EURUSD is the only pair passing our quality gate; GBPUSD and USDJPY were tested but are not recommended

How do I get support?

Is my data safe?

We only collect your MT4 account number (for EA activation) and optionally your email. We do not store passwords or trading data. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Can I get a refund?

The EAs are free, so there’s nothing to refund. If you’re unsatisfied, simply stop using the EA. You can also practice on a demo account first.

What if the EA loses money?

All trading involves risk. Our EAs include risk management features, but losses are possible. We strongly recommend:

  • Starting with a demo account
  • Using conservative risk settings (1% per trade)
  • Only trading with money you can afford to lose
  • Reading our risk disclosure

How does EA activation actually work?

Enter the MT4 or MT5 account number of an XM account opened through our affiliate link , plus your email, on the download or register page. Our system checks that account number against XM’s record of our IB (Introducing Broker) relationship. This is an automated lookup, not a manual review, so it normally completes in seconds. Once verified, the six gated EAs unlock immediately for both MT4 (.ex4) and MT5 (.ex5). QuickPulse is the exception: it’s retired from our live-use recommendation, so it’s a direct download with no account number, no email, and no form.

What happens if my account number isn’t found?

You’ll see instructions to open an XM account through our link if you haven’t already, or to double-check the account number you entered. You do not need to fund the account to activate and download the EAs — but a live or demo account does need to be funded before the EA can actually place trades.

Were the backtest figures on this site ever wrong?

Yes. On July 30, 2026 we corrected every published backtest after finding our testing engine had decoded each price bar’s high and low in the wrong order, which corrupted the stop-loss, take-profit, and indicator calculations behind every figure. The corrected numbers are worse for two of the three affected EAs, and QuickPulse no longer passes our quality gate on any pair. Only the current figures on the Performance page are accurate — see the correction history for the full account.

If the EAs are free, why do you earn money from them?

We earn a commission from XM when you open and trade on an account through our affiliate link — that commission, not a fee charged to you, is what funds free development and distribution of the EAs. You pay the same spreads and fees as any other XM client either way. See our affiliate disclosure for the full picture.

How do I unsubscribe from emails?

Email [email protected] with the account number or email address you registered and ask to opt out. We aim to respond within 30 days; see our Privacy Policy for details on how we handle that request.
